Daubeney Road Murals, Hackney, London
Created in 1982 by Free Form Arts, the wall murals depict the Victorian glasshouse, animals and birds at Kew Gardens. They were added as a mechanism to brighten up an otherwise dismal row of garages off Daubeney Road in Hackney. Miraculously the murals have survived well into the twenty-first century and were recorded prior to conservation as a collaborative project with Archangel Heritage. The work helped to highlight the cultural significance of community art in the modern era.
