Field archaeology is undeniably a physically demanding job! However, there are whole other areas of the subject which are every bit as crucial to he research process which do not involve lifting a mattock or wielding a trowel – this course is designed for those who wish to branch out in their skills and take an alternative approach to research ideal for the local historian or fledgling archaeologist.
This type of research, often referred to as “desk-based assessment”, incorporates many disciplines including documentary research, map regression exercises, buildings archaeology, walk-over surveys, landscape archaeology, architectural history and photography. The course will be taught part-classroom seminar and part-practical field observation.
