We receive numerous enquires about our online lectures. Most of the answers can now be found in this Frequently Asked Questions section…
Will a recording of the talk be available?
Our great apologies, but these are usually live events only. Firstly, live events help to positively engender community connections. Secondly, whilst it is acceptable practice to use images owned by others (with due credit) in a live event, it is not OK to do this in a recording without infringing copyright. Consequently, we would have to either significantly re-edit all of our talks to incorporate only images for which we own copyright (often not possible) or we would have to write to every single copyright holder to get specific written permission to use them in a recording. Both are significantly time-consuming operations and would essentially prevent us from hosting these talks at all.
Does the talk have to be at that time – it doesn’t suit me?
The lectures take place after the end of the working day for our speaker, James Wright. They are an offer to the community on top of his Triskele Heritage consultancy work. He has a young family and has responsibilities to them in the evenings. The talks are therefore located at a point between the working day and private family time.
Eventbrite is telling me that the event is sold out – can I get a ticket?
Our licensing agreement with Zoom allows access for up to 495 members of the public. Increasing that number would require a prohibitively large fee that we cannot justify financially. Consequently, tickets are limited. When they have all been allocated the event is classed as “sold out”.
I’ve booked a ticket but I can no longer attend – what should I do?
Please, please, please return your ticket via Eventbrite. Every event we have people who have booked tickets but they never turn up. Those tickets could be allocated to people who really want to join us. Therefore, if you know that you will be unable to attend – send your ticket back so that someone else can.
I’m having technical problems accessing the event, can you help me?
The lectures are hosted via Zoom and tickets are provided by Eventbrite. Please contact those services direct, or your internet service provider, if you are having issues gaining access. Up until the very beginning of the talks you are welcome to email james@triskeleheritage.com for help, but after we have started the account will not be monitored.
I’ve accessed the event but I can’t hear anything – why is that?
In the first place it is probably because we have not yet begun. We upload a holding screen when you enter the meeting until the event begins. There will be no sound during this period. Once we have begun, if you still cannot hear, make sure that you have enabled your device’s speakers. Failing that, try restarting your device and logging in again.
How long do the lectures last?
Each one is around 50-70 minutes in length (depending on digressions). They will be followed by questions from the floor which usually last 30-45 minutes. Feel free to join us for as long as you like.
Can I ask a question about the content of the talk?
YES PLEASE! You are more than welcome to enter a question into the Chat function in Zoom. We keep everyone on mute to avoid extraneous noises disturbing the flow of the talks, but if you preface your question with “???” James will try and answer as many as possible from the Chat.
I’m really interested in a particular subject – will you do a lecture on that, please?
All talks are selected in advance of the event. Whilst we are not taking requests, as such, if the talk exists already then it might get pulled out of the bag eventually… but there are no promises!
Is there a cost to join the lectures?
Some of our talks are entirely free. We aim to try and make our talks accessible to all. Some talks require a donation to try and make them financially viable. In those cases the donation can be as little as £1 (GBP) or as much as you want to give. The lectures do take quite a bit of time to create as bespoke content written especially for the event. It takes around four days of labour to write a single talk which is why we sometimes ask for donations to help cover the time spent 🙂
How many lectures will there be?
We run six events in the winter lecture series which will run monthly from October to March. However, there are also occasional talks which are scheduled on an ad hoc basis. All lectures will be advertised here.
