Trent & Peak Archaeology excavations at Nottingham Castle
The £29.4 million transformation project at Nottingham Castle has required several packets of archaeological fieldwork for which Triskele Heritage were invited to contribute historic stonework expertise by Trent & Peak Archaeology.
Notable finds which were identified included a quoin stone commemorating the notorious Jacobite mayor of Nottingham – Thomas Hawksley, a fragment of late tenth or early eleventh century Anglo-Scandinavian grave cover and two chimneypieces which probably originated from Edward IV’s royal lodging suite built during the 1470s.
Contributions towards the project can be found via Trent & Peak Archaeology’s uploaded reports to the Archaeology Data Service.
